Cisco Blames Backlog Revenue Slack on Supply Chain
Cisco today said it’s experiencing the greatest demand in almost a decade but supply chain difficulties are plundering what would otherwise be more fabulous financial performance.
Supply chain restraints affected revenue during the company’s third quarter of the fiscal year 2021, dispirited guidance, and is causing backlogs on orders, Cisco business people said during the profits call.
“We are feeling the greatest demand in almost a decade. We’re also observing related component deficiency supply issues as our peers,” CEO Chuck Robbins said.
Those arrangements, however, come with greater costs for parts, expedite charges, and freight shipping. Cisco requires supply chain interruptions to stay through at least the end of 2021.
Cisco is undergoing broadly risen demand for products and services for hybrid work, cloud computing, digital transformation, and subscription-based contributions, he said. “We’re also noticing ahead momentum in the ramping of important technology cycles that are long-term growth drivers for our company such as 5G, 400 Gb/s, and edge.”
Cisco Awaits Supply Chain Problems Through 2021
The company proclaimed a 10% growth in product orders throughout the quarter but didn’t seize all of that as revenue due to the continuous supply chain constraints.
Cisco products made 71% of the vendor’s income during the quarter, jumping 6.3% from the year-ago time to $9.1 billion. Under that group of products, Cisco’s base platforms’ revenue grew 6% to $6.8 billion, applications hopped 5% to $1.4 billion, and security grew 13% to $876 million.
“We have a matchless ability to give end-to-end security abilities over users, devices, applications, and data on any network or any cloud,” Robbins said, continuing that all member of the Fortune 100 is adopting Cisco’s safety offerings. “These customers are frequently using our zero trust and reliable access service edge, or SASE architectures, along with automation, and analytics, authentication, capacities.”
Service revenue rose 8.2% year over year to almost $3.7 billion during the quarter. “We proceed to aggressively drive our business to more recurring revenue streams, which we suppose to grow over time as we develop our offerings,” Robbins said, adding that 81% of software revenue was sold as an agreement during the quarter, up from 76% in the past quarter.
“We’re not one of the largest software companies in the world, north of $14 billion in software revenue and I don’t believe anyone believes of Cisco in those terms,” Cisco CFO Scott Herren said, referencing the company’s current annual run rate on software sales.
The company gained almost 57% of its sales from the Americas region, followed by 27% in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and 15% from the Asia Pacific, Japan, and China.

Cisco deposited $2.9 billion in net income on $12.8 billion in revenue during the quarter, following a 3% year-over-year rise in profit and a 7% jump in revenue.
