IBM Launches Turnium’s Containerized SD-WAN into Cloud

Turnium Technology Group declared a collaboration with IBM to expand its cloud-native SD-WAN platform on the IBM Cloud for Telecommunications service.

The Vancouver, British Columbia-based SD-WAN vendor demands the collaboration will support service providers and enterprises to deploy, manage, and access edge estimates applications over IBM’s private backbone network.

Turnium isn’t a brand-new player in the SD-WAN space, having started its original white-label offering in collaboration with its sister company Multapplied in 2016.

The company’s cloud-native, container-based SD-WAN platform works on bare metal, virtual machines, or containerized settings like OpenShift, which coincidentally was taken by IBM with the buying of RedHat in 2018.

The platform also sustains a wide variety of WAN-held technologies like broadband, 5G, fixed wireless, 4G LTE, and fiber links.

Turnium is the most advanced SD-WAN vendor to declare alliances with a public cloud provider.

This season, SD-WAN vendors Cisco, Fortinet, and Versa individually stated unions with Google Cloud, which enable their SD-WAN customers to practice the cloud provider’s private backbone for middle-mile connectivity.

Though Turnium’s alliance with IBM Cloud isn’t restricted to transport, and it also discusses the deployment of and entrance to workloads in hybrid-cloud environments, including those operating in private data centers or at the edge.

Declared in November 2020, IBM Cloud for Telecommunications makes and repackages multiple services — including Red Hat OpenShift, IBM Telco Network Cloud Manager,  IBM Edge Application Manager,IBM Cloud, and — particularly for use by mobile carriers and network operators.

Evaristus Mainsah, GM of IBM’s hybrid cloud and edge ecosystem, said in a statement that onboarding TTGI’s Turnium SD-WAN solution allows us to serve customers to interconnect their heterogeneous cloud deployments with their organization’s WAN to support telco clouds worldwide.
